Surgery Center of Mount Dora

Size: 11,052 square feet
Location: Mount Dora
Client: Thomas Mallon, CEO/Founder,Regent Surgical Health
Architect: Jass & Associates
Completed: October 2009

Mark Stevens and architect David Jass had successfully collaborated on previous projects. Thus, when asked to recommend a healthcare construction firm to Regent Surgical Health, the architect selected Stevens Construction.

The 11,052-SF surgery center features three operating rooms, minor procedure room, step-down recovery and support areas to serve a multi-specialty group of doctors.

The reflective galvalume standing seam metal roof, insulated low-e windows and chilled water HVAC system are a few of the energy efficient features incorporated into the design.

Natural design components promoting wellness were used throughout the interior bringing the outdoors in, such as expansive windows and a sky ceiling art light feature in the nurse’s station, creating a peaceful atmosphere for patients.

During site inspections prior to construction starting, Stevens Construction discovered 34 gopher tortoises residing in the location where construction was to begin.  Stevens Construction worked with the Department of Environmental Protection to safely relocate the tortoises to a refuge site, taking several months to finalize, delaying the start date by several weeks.

The Stevens Construction team offset the delay and delivered the project six weeks ahead of schedule and completed the surgery center within seven months.
